Mold Design Engineer Mesa, Arizona
Under general direction of the Director of Engineering, the Mold Designer, has the overall responsibility for designing molds, fixtures, dies, and gauges based on customer supplied CAD data, prints, and specifications as well as knowledge of mold characteristics and process limitations. Additional responsibilities willinclude mechanical design, product improvements, documentation, production fixture design, reliability analysis as well as providing technical expertise and product knowledge using a variety of engineering disciplines. The Mold Design will also work collaboratively with other members of the Engineering team to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner.Essential Duties and Responsibilities Determining molding parameters such as shrinkage factors, tolerances, runner/gate design and heat profiles to optimize efficiency. Use strong analytical and system focus to create and improve design processes and procedures. Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost. Creates drawings using CAD software. Selects standard items such as bushings and tool components to incorporate into tool design. Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and detail drawing, using computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software and standard drafting tools and equipment. Modifies tool designs for required engineering changes and to improve tool life or performance. Create solid models and drawings for assembly, components, tooling and fixturing in SolidWorks Create designs that are aligned with assembly and manufacturing capabilities; perform Design-for-Manufacturing reviews Work with Manufacturing Engineering to develop assembly, process control and quality workmanship procedures Perform product verification and validations according to th
